a record of neglect

Robert writes --

"This sad old building at Post and Hyde has been empty and boarded up for at least 9 years now, and very likely longer. It's been squatted, vandalized and generally abused. It gets tagged and flyered, then eventually someone slaps a little paint over that, and it immediately gets tagged and flyered again. Why should such a thing be allowed? You can bet it wouldn't be allowed in Pacific Heights.

The city has the authority to require property owners to maintain their property, but apparently Chris Daly simply doesn't have the political will to deal with eyesores like this that bring our neighborhood down."

Robert responds:

"I've lived across from this building for 4 years now, and within a few blocks of it for another 7. I first noticed it about 9 years ago, when Shepherd Fairey put posters on it.

Chris Daly has been the supervisor for this district for 6 YEARS, ample time to do something about it. It would take him 10 minutes to have one of his aides write a letter to the building owner to say that if he doesn't bring it up to code within X months, the city will declare it blighted, condemn it and have it razed. But he'll never do so, because he simply doesn't care about the quality of life of people who live here."
